Inventions for the modern world
How would you use a radio or a telephone if you had no electricity or batteries? These problems bothered British inventor
Trevor Baylis. So in 1996 he invented a wind-up radio. It doesn’t need electricity or batters. You wind it up by hand. It plays
for about an hour. Then, you wind it up again. Today it’s manufactured in south Africa. Then in 1996, Baylis invented a mobile
telephone that is powered by shoes. The shoes contain a small battery that is powered when you walk. This battery is
connected to a mobile phone. These two simple inventions can bring modern communications to all parts of the world.
Baylis doesn’t have a university degree in engineering. In fact, he left high school before graduating. He just loves making thing
to help people. He never knows when ideas will come to him. He got the idea for the radio while watching TV. the idea for the
telephone came to him in a dream.

Earthquakes
The temperature at the centre of the earth is a bout 4000 centigrade. As the center is a hot, there is always movement there.
The heat makes the inside of the earth move and Earthquakes. These charges sometimes make the outside move too.
Then it results in earthquakes.
Earthquakes do not take place in most parts of the world. But in some areas they do occur frequently.
Sri Lanka is not in an earthquakes area.
Some earthquakes are so small that people hardly notice anything happening except the movement of pictures on the wall.
But in a major earthquakes buildings will crack and fall, rivers, will flood their banks and railways, electricity and underground pipe
lines will get damaged. This will bring a lot of misery and death to the people. Government will have to spend a huge Mont
of money to repair the damage.

Of the trotoice who was just slow walker.
This fellow will newer leaden. The hare thought and he crept under a bush and had a cossy nap.

LlBARARIES

Libraries are treasure-troves left by our ancestors. Rukin copares books to king’s treasure in his famous book ‘sesame and lilies’. In books are to be found Riches beyond the price of gold or rubies because the books are treasured up with the thoughts of great- men and the words of renowned poets.
Now-a-days in all towns and many villages the imposing buildings house the collection of books which are the property of the public. Usually there is a large reading room where daily and weekly newspapers can be consulted and copy of every possible magazine is available. These reading rooms are not only places of source of knowledge and interest at the disposal of the public but provide a quiet comfortable room with an atmosphere conducive to study. Many students whose homes are overcrowded and noisy find a haven of refuge in the public reading room where they can work in peace.

The ‘Kalu’ jungle
There is a jungle named ‘Kalu kelaya’ which has about 525 acres.
There are many valuable plants such as weniwel, Kihiriya and also there are most valuable trees such as Kaluwara, Damba and Keena which we use as timber.
Not only that but also there are spreaded creepers such as cane and they make the ‘Kalu kelaya’ more valuable. We can see porcupines, wildbores, monkeys and sambhurs mostly in there.
Andalso this jungle maks houses for migrants as well as endemic birds.
And it is sure that all these animals find the ‘kalu kelaya’ as the most appropriate place to live them.
So it is full of bio-diversity and there are various falk talks which are viewed around the ‘Kalu Kelaya’.
As our ancestors say there is an ancient importance too in it.
So I believe that this jungle will protect longer with its environmental and ancient importance.
For the future generation.
